Cheap domains (DNS)? No thank you!

Having just moved one more domain from a "cheap" provider to a controlled but more expensive environment all I can say - cheap domains - no thank you.

I tend to manage domains on two of the more expensive but top domain providers who have the technology allowing me to quickly change DNS, Zone file, MX etc. I also never allow the hosting providers to control the primary DNS, they can have secondary. Thus if there is a problem I can simply "switch" dns by logging into the control center and activating a back-up site.
Takes about 4-8 haours to perculate through the net. For important or more critical sites I change the DNS refresh down.

Again there is no problem in using the cheapest actual web provider one can get away with BUT do not let them control your domain / DNS. If there is a real problem they may be busy or simply not responding, having domain/DNS at a third party one can easily switch to a back up and wait for the dust to settle. Also if the server crashes instead of waiting for back-up's and replacements I can simply switch.

I use godaddy as well. Navigating through all the BS ads is kind of a pain, but otherwise, I like the great support.
