I am currently buying them at $6.99/year, is there anywhere else cheaper for this?

It depends if your hosting a site or just buying domain name. I have seen domain names for $5 with hosting for .com name. Make sure to read the terms of sites with lower prices some have locked domain names and made owners pay hundreds to transfer them out.

    ^ nice :)

also, make sure that the registrar have a good business background.. make a bit of research.. gooling is a great way to start.. see to it that they have an accommodating and 24/7 support. Most registrars lack that very important service.

So I presume that .com $6.99 price is Domainsite.com? Whelp, AFAIK they're one of the cheapest around + the excellent customer support. I've had some minor issues with them before but were solved in a timely manner.

Be sure to regsiter your domain to a highly reputable domain registrar.

    Good luck

I only use netfirms.com and their support is not bad. I don't know renewal price but I think about $8 or $9. Before renew it I transfer my domain to godaddy for selling it. But I register sometime from netfirms.com. Also you please look this campaign of Netfirms.

    http://www.netfirms.com/max

    2 domain name registration
1 year hosting service (host unlimited website)
    etc.

Enter the coupon code: BOGODOMAIN during the check-out process to apply the discount.
The coupon is limited to new registrations and is not valid for renewals or transfers.

There is a limit of one coupon use per account.

This promotion ends September 5th at midnight.

I like NameCheap too though they are not the cheapest. I can manage the domains under me better. NetFirms only allow a max of 5 domains at $4.95 for the first year, after which it will be $9.95 per domain.

NameCheap is the best for managing domains. Forget about godaddy, they are the worst.

The problems with cheap "1st year" registrations

    1. Expensive next years renewal cost, usually doubled
    2. Must pay for addon services like domain forwarding, dns management etc
    3. Usually, poor to worse customer support

Usual problems of Free domains with hosting package purchase

    1. You don't have total control of your DNS
    2. Admin name's under the hosting company
    3. Registrar transfers can be a dilema just in case there's a sale
    4. You bind a contract

I'll rather choose registrars that offers many FREE addon services, instant push, 24/7 support by phone/ticket and total feedom of full control over your domain name.

For adding a few like $1.50-$2.00, you'll enjoy great savings and usable addon features in the long run.

I prefer 1&1 for my domain names as i just find godaddy's control panel just completely unusable.
