Yes I do know some, but I need more information from you.

What do you want to do with it? Play some games like Battlefield 3 or COD 3 (graphic heavy games), do you want to edit Videos or just for browsing the web?
    Is battery life any important?
    What screen size?

If you are going to do just the basic stuff like emails, word processing, browsing then I suggest you get a netbook. It's cheap and the battery life is longer compared to other laptops.

As a poster said, it depends on what you want to do with it. However, you can get a good laptop between $400 to $500 at Staples.

In Acer there are some notebook models which are very cheap and high in performance. one of my friend bought that and the model is in Aspire series.
