    I don't think that the US wants to take out Venzuela. I think there is concern about his plans to purchase kilo class submarines from the Russians and his support for the FARC.

    The Colombian Army is larger and has 90 Blackhawk helicopters as well as good military airlift cababilities. US will probably beef up the Colombian airforce. Howver if Chavez launches airstrikes on Colombia I believe your right and the US will move a carrier into the region to teach Chavez a lesson.

    I beg to differ on that, Bush may want to use this opportunity to take out Chavez and install a friendlier govt to ensure the continuity of oil supply. If Venezuela strikes Colombia, this provides an excellent opportunity to intervene.

    lol... The aholes at PNAC were concerned that Saddam/Iraq was too weak militarily after we crushed them in Desert Storm. They were advocating a USA intervention (ie. invasion) in Iraq before 9/11 happened to pre-empt Iran or Syria from gaining influence there (to the detriment of Israel) - and that's why the Bush admin fabricated the WMD excuse to go to war as soon as they could after 9/11 (when they could easily take advantage of public sentiment).

    To claim that Saddam had the wherewithal to become a regional "Hitler rising" is laughable.

    Good opinion, might take the "picture" away from Iraq for awhile.

    Saddam was far from losing control Iraq, and if he died his sons would of took the reigns of power with little to no resistance. To assume that there is ZERO benefit of this war is silly, but the negative FAR out way the positive.

    This country needs to stop the finger pointing and blaming and start getting something done before its too late. It is unreal how divided people are over everything.

    July 1996 - David Wurmser, Middle East Adviser to Cheney, Richard Perle, Defense Policy Board Chair, Douglas Feith, Under Secretary of Defense to Wolfowitz, et. al., author A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm as part of The Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies which argues for removing Saddam Hussein as an important Israeli strategic objective (delivered to Isreal's Prime Minister on July 8, 1996):
    December 1996 - David Wurmser crafts a long follow up report titled Coping with Crumbling States: A Western and Israeli Balance of Power Strategy for the Levant pushing for American involvement in Iraq not because Saddam is a threat, but rather that Iraq is so weak that Iran or Syria (enemies of Israel) might take over.

    June 1997 - William Kristol and Robert Kagan found Project for the New American Century (PNAC), the neocon think tank including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, I. Lewis Libby and Elliott Abrams that pushes a strongly interventionist foreign policy (American Empire/Pax Americana).

    2000 - PNAC releases Rebuilding America's Defenses which contains the statement (in section V):
    These neocon hawks were anticipating the possibility of radically transforming the military should an opportunity present itself.

    September 2001 - 9/11

    Afterwards - Neocons (Rumsfeld, Perle, Wolfowitz, et. al.) push for invading Iraq even though intelligence shows OBL and Al Qaeda were responsible.zfacts

    ~~~
    Iraq had nothing to do with Saddam Hussein, WMD, Oil or American interests. It is the brainchild of interventionist neocons looking out for Isreali political interests, but paid with American blood.
    My 9/11 conspiracy? I challenge you to find any statement by me ever supporting such a claim. I am not and never have been a "truther" who thinks 9/11 was "done by the US government".
    I do believe that the government took advantage of the event for ulterior motives though. Did you even bother to click the links I provided directly to the source documents on the think tank web sites? It's not like the information (or associations from Bush's advisors) is secret or anything. It's published for all to see.
    Good grief. Why don't you actually read my post before spouting off ridiculous ad hominems? It's obvious you didn't read anything (or your reading comprehension skills are sorely lacking) in my first post from this afternoon.
    When an acronym follows the name it represents (all capitalized and everything), do I really need to explain it? I even offered a few links explaining what it is. Sigh.
    That assumes there is someone in who is in favor of U.S. interest, and While Chavez may not be a friend of the U.S. he really hasn't done anything to hurt us he still sells us Oil. I think the US can do more harm to him by reducing oil consumption and developing alternative energy
    This reply to my post is EXACTLY whats wrong with America today. I asked a simple question, but yet you make an attack? Apparently since I don't see eye to eye with you the result is a reply of a 14 year old. Shame people forgot the whole point of a "discussion". That reply lost all respect I had for any of your posts\threads and\or links you may ever provide since you can't see past your own ideal beliefs or opinions. You might as well be a republican. :rolleyes:
    It's hard to have a forum discussion when one participant doesn't read. You are the one who has thrown out ad hominems and straw men to make points when you haven't even bothered to read what I wrote. The answer to your "simple question" was "simply answered" in my first post this afternoon.
    When you choose to read and be thoughtful with your posts, I will be happy to engage you in a discussion.
    IMHO let's be patient and engage one other peacefully. If there is an error from another member, gently remind him. This would keep the Political Forum peaceful and not a war zone as in Iraq :)
    Cheers!
    Chavez has said "this could be the start of a war in South America."
    I think both Ecuador and Venezuela are throwing up a smoke screen for there support of the FARC and ELAN.
    Colombia military is more experienced and have the capability to repond quickly to Venezuela with 90 Blackhawks.
    South America war will start and end pretty quickly as USA will get involved, I don't see USA tolerating any problems in their backyard.
    A few missiles to the loyalists and you might get a coup going. That saves a lot of work...
