I have been a webmaster of a social network / video chat site for over 6 years and thought that I needed to do something slightly different. Running the same site for 6 years has got a bit boring and the concept is slightly old fashioned but it runs itself and any changes would kill the retro feel that the chatters like. So I have been a bit stuck with ideas and wanted something fresh. Many people on chat sites want to be moderators and have Admin powers, I have a team of 20 on my chat site and always a large list of others who would like to moderate the chat rooms. So I thought, why not build a site that allows people to create their own permanent video chat rooms and have Admin powers and the ability to select other moderators for their chat rooms. ChatterPlace.com is my new website. It allows members to create free permanent video chat rooms with Admin powers and run their own team of moderators. I have left all options open for room creation so there is a lot of available customization of each chat room that is created. You can change the layout, background, add/remove moderators, set bad words, autocam on or off, welcome message, choose between private or public chat and much more. After each room is created, a html code is automatically created and is available at the top of each room for webmasters to embed the chat on their websites or blogs. The code is a simple iframe, allowing the webmaster to change the code height, width etc. Also added share buttons to the top of each chat room which will share the chat room URL directly onto Facebook, Twitter or any chosen social network or bookmarking site. There is a social network built into the site with pages like "Most Active Chat Rooms" and "All Chat Rooms". Each time a chat room is created, it will appear on the main public activity page. When there are members in a chat room, it will appear on the "Most Active Chat Rooms" page, the busier chat rooms at the top. All created chat rooms appear on the "All Chat Rooms" page in order of creation to give all chat rooms some exposure. The network also has groups, videos, photos, message boards, Instant Messenger, friends lists, members profiles and all configurable user settings. The site is built so that privacy is kept to a minimum to enhance social activity. The main public activity feed writes everything that is going on, every activity is shown. My other chat site is very private, a more public network might be a more social one. The created chat rooms can be set as private so you can have privacy with friends or invited members.
