Chatroom in Forum. Good or bad?

I imagine a chatroom in a forum can help make members more "sticky", which helps make more impressions for CPM ads. But does it compromise the forum?

Do people start making less General Chat kind of threads due to the availability of a chatroom?

Anyone tried it and observed positive results?

If your forums is basically for gossips, It'll surely run.
Besides this, Check that how many active users do you get daily and how many posts are they making.
With that in mind, Think for a chatbox! :)

We got a flashchat soft since years but its rarely used. But its still good to have because when people go to the chat they are reading and posting in the forum plus you get less spammy posts in the forum.

I link a forum category to a Blitz chatroom though, 95% of the time no one is there...the other 5% is pretty much me checking.

A Blitz room is free, so you may wish to try that before paying for something, or taking the time to install. If it goes well then, then integrate...

I don't think it's a good idea to put a chatroom (or even a shoutbox) on a forum. I believe it will lessen the forum posts per day for members will use the chatroom instead to get a fast reply from someone...

i agree, dont use a chat room for a forum, i think by making more customizable options available to ppl, will make a forum more sticky

Yeah, I agree. Whenever I added a shoutbox or chat room it took away from my forum. Don't recommend it for smaller sites.

only problem with a chatroom is that you risk loosing all that user-generated content that could be going into your forum.
