Hey Guys and Gals, Is it worth trying to get a high page rank still, looking through the forums people keep saying that they dont care about page rank and they would rather have better content on their sites. Is googles page rank worth the paper its written on?? I dont want to spend alot of time trying to build up my page rank when i could be doing something else.
If you want to rank high in google you must have to think about PR. Without PR you never rank your website with high search volume keywords. May be sometimes you can rank well with lowest search volume keyword without PR, but in this case you also need some quality bakclinks.
I'm one of those people who doesn't care about the PR's, I only focus on quality of my page and visitors to my website.
You want to build backlinks all the time for your website so you can rank better in google search engine. The pagerank will come naturally. If you have enough backlinks you will get good serp and good pagerank. I allways aim for a high pagerank. Pagerank is still more important than other thinks , and now im speaking of those guys that say "get quality content and visits dont care about pagerank."
Well I'm in the middle... page rank is just a factor nothing more, it doesn't count towards your ranking as most think, what counts is the authority given by Google, but that is something they won't tell you. PR is just a basic identification tool so we can see the approximate ranking that Google gives a certain page, nothing more, nothing less. Just concentrate on unique and quality content and quality backlinks, the rankings will improve if you keep at it and if PR is not dead and gets updated any time soon it will come naturally, in the meanwhile check your mozrank to see where you stand!
i still care for pr. since i intend to sell my site. i'm losing interest to the niche. but in order for it to have high price, it needs pr.
Google themselves even discouraging webmasters and site owners on thinking or focusing much on PR, they don't give major PR updates in at least two years now which they've practiced quarterly before.
Public "PR" is no longer updated. You should care about bringing unique content to your site, and getting as much backlinks as you can. That's what Google oficially says, and that's what been working for people (well, me at least)
Pagerank is googles way of keeping score on the importance of your website. If it is important and provides good info, you will get high pagerank.
What do you mean by minor updates? I have been monitoring several "control sites", which were created much after 4/4/2010. Many of them rank very well , but their PR is still 0.
Minor updates are not for anybody, are from specifically sites. Just as example dragonblogger.com who has PR2 and them in December got PR 4
I agree with many of the other posters... PR rank is an important underlying factor... but you shouldn't focus all your effort on it or worry about whether your site is a PR3 or PR4. To rank well in search engines, you need high quality content and backlinks. As your banklinks improve, so will your PR. They go hand-in-hand...
xjackx: Unfortunately, I do not have information about the pr of that site up to December. Forgive me, for having serious doubts about this matter, because I can't think of a reason for some site to have PR update, and other not to.
Does anyone what page rank is even for these days? Seems to me that the webmasters who don't have it want it and those that do don't care about it. I think it is a good indicator about a sites age.
I don't think any rational person could think of a reason, but google does, and they've kept rather silent about it. If they'd only announce something, we'd all feel a lot better...
