So I've had charter for 3 years and I canceled since I went down to a cheaper $20 / mo DSL. Now the problem is that they are charging me $228 if I don't return the Cable Box TV and the Cable Modem. I have the Cable Box TV and I happened to misplace the Cable modem. What are my options to this problem? Isn't 3 years a long time to stay in your broadband subscription and should've paid for the modem? I don't get why I still have to pay for a modem like its brand newwhen its a modem that I've had for 3 years and thats literally junk that caused disconnections and such. I know this isn't the right forum but does anyone know any links to other forums where I can get a solution to this?
This is something cable and telephone companies have been doing for decades. Just last week, I read about a guy who was still paying a monthly fee to AT&T for his dial phone that was 50 years old. His neice was visiting him and she noticed the charge on his bill, which was like $4 a month. She immediately called AT&T and had them take back the phone and stop charging the monthly fee. The man had no idea that you can buy your own phone in stores for like $20 or less and avoid having to pay that fee. Apparently there are thousands of elderly people who are still paying AT&T this monthly fee because they don't know any better. My point is, you never get to own the product you are paying that monthly fee for. It's not rent-to-own, it's rent-until-you-die.
