Charging $ for posts but not for replies - Auction set up using VBulletin

Is this possible?

I would like to charge people for adding posts that want to list items for sale via an auction but have "bidders" reply for free.

I'm new to this so any advice would be much appreciated.

You might consider instead a paid membership system, where paid members can start a post and replies are opened to anyone
