Why are people charging for ebooks that plug a site? Maybe a better question is why are people paying for an ebook that plugs a site? These books should be given out freely they are more advertising. Not much different then a blog for profit. You have content, add in your sales pitch somewhere in the content and wa-la. But blogs don't cost money to look at...

I may be new to all of this but common sense tells me ebooks for sale is mostly a scam.

Maybe the cost is for finding the book. It took me a whole of 2min to queue up 20 e-books on various subjects from torrents. Lot of good information in these books I've found (minus the selling but that's easy to avoid).

    What do you think?

    Simple - don't buy ebooks ;)

People do it because some 'guru' wrote an ebook telling them to do it, so everybody jumped on the bandwagon and started doing it.

There's some information that is not freely available. Some blackhat stuff, very specific information within a particular niche, etc. warrants the purchase of an ebook if the customer is willing to take action with the information given.

Most ebooks are bullshit, I'll agree with you on that. I was thinking of writing up an ebook within my online gaming niche giving a step by step guide on how to make some money...I'll probably end up charging a nominal amount of money to compensate for my time, though.
