Charge for the FOR SALE forums

There is soo much warez garbage being passed as legit stuff in the for sale areas I think it ight be an idea to start charging $5 to post in there.

This would help keep the spammers/scammers/warez kiddies out. It wont stop it but would keep many out im sure

    just a thought :)

    I don't think it's a horrible idea....

It definetly keeps the (poor) trash off sitepoint.

But I dunno, I like the everything on DP is free, and it'd kinda go against the whole rev-sharing thing Shawn has going on.

Whats funny about that is a large part of the success of the B/S/T section here was because Sitepoint started charging. People want a place where they can freely list things for sale and not have to decide if its worth selling a $10 domain when they have to pay $5 to list it.

I can understand calling for a dedicated Moderator to get rid of the useless posts and warez stuff (Who would want that job  ) but a fee to post was be a horrible addition.

I wouldn't mind....I'm pretty free most of the time, but I dunno if I'd be fit to be a moderator on DP :p people think i'm a dick lol (probably because i tell them to you know..f#ck off and all :p)

I will just add to that, that people complain about these types of listings in the B/S/T section but those same people rarely use the report feature.

If someone is selling warez or scamming, report it.

This has been suggested before, but Shawns typical reply would be:

    ;) :) :D

Just to add my 0.02$ I think you should charge to list to sell ..
Yer I do post for sale here Proberbly would be a little less if I had to pay But when having to pay at least you will get 75% spam vanished.
Report the post Don't work I tried it when someone trashed my thread because he had only made 5 posts not enough to start a sales thread so he decided to take over mine.
In the end I had to make a topic in here.
There has to be something that can be done.
    But who knows what ?

Thats right, it has 99.99% success rate for me.

Yup, hijacking of threads would be increased.

And i have seen people actually make sales by hijacking someone elses thread. Even i bought a link from a guy who hijacked someone elses thread.

Let me give the biggest reason this will never happen.

If people are paying to list their product, they are then buying a service from Shawn and will have a certain expectation. That means Shawn has to spend loads of time babysitting that section and you can guarantee there are going to be tons of people whining etc. It just wouldn't be worth the headache.

Not to mention this isn't a marketplace forum, it just has one.

I think I have a simple solution for it, make fryman the mod of the BST forums, and look for his famous jeezz! not this shit again!! pic in the threads. If you find one, know, its a scammer.

Maybe Shawn could code Fry's reply to thread box so it automatically starts with {Yawn} ;)

I think the B/S/T forum increasing in activity after sitepoints charging may be partly due to the fact that the dross couldn't get posted there anymore and it moved here.

There won't be a charge anyway - Shawn has stated as much. There is just an awful lot of dealings going on there for someone to have to moderate, it would be a hell of a task, but I would like to see some more active moderating going on.
