Can Channels be used for identifying banner areas which may be affecting the so called nsmartpricing of an account?

    i tried this
do you then change the ads that have a poor click thru percentage or pay poorly

to avoid smartpricing what do you look for on the channel report?

I don't worry about smart pricing...I think it's just way too hard to avoid if it is happening to your account...focuse on making good sites and let everything work itself out.

I use channels more to see which ads are getting good CTR and also seeing how changing the colour schemes affect CTR.

You guys are way too paranoid if you think setting up channels or not having channels can increase or decrease your earnings.

I have seen the aftermath after the changes are made. From non-channel, to channel, and then back to non-channel. Maybe it was a coincident. But I will stick with the non-channel.

If my interpretation is correct. if you separate the channels for your site, you will get less adsense eCPM power for the channel. At least, that is what I saw from my experiement.

lol,, there are to many rumors flying aroung the adsense mill..

Channels are used to let the publisher know which ad is performing well or better than the others..

Say you take a site and ad a 120 x 600 on the left hand side and call it left
say then you take a banner above the fold and call it top
then you ad a 728 x 90 below the fold and call its channel below...

The channels are simply going to tell you which ad the visitors are clicking on more than the rest.. so then you can change your color schemes , sizes etc etc to make them all good.

From what I have seen regardless of the channels,, when a visitor comes to your site the 3 ads on the site is 1 impression,,, not 3 ads 3 impressions,,, so for a decrease in cpm on your site the visitor would simply not click on any of your ads at all,,,

I have sites that have 2 ads per , some that have 3 ads per ,, but i dont and have not seen any indication of using channels resulting in any decrease in cpm.

For the ones that said you did recieve a lower cpm,, it could have been just a bad day for adsense all together,, or it simply could have been that the advertisers were spending less money on the days you tried to expieriment with channels... either way ,, take one week and ad channels,, then check,,, then go a week without channels and then check again... I am sure on the average of a week you want see google penalizing you for using channels.

That is a good suggestion, but my experiment has failed me. I think one week is too short for a small site, monthly test maybe a better gauge. I am very cuious on "has anybody tried this experiment before"?
