Hi... Please bear with me as I'm pretty to new to all this. How do you all track which pages are doing well and which are not? Do you create a channel for every page that your Adsense is on or is there something else that you use. I have 3 sites with Adsense on all 3, but if I create a channel for each page, I'd have hundreds of channels. I hope this is making sense. Thanks in advance for your help. Patty
You can set up channels for particular types of ad ... 468x60, 120x600, , that sort of thing, or color schemes. Additionally, you can set up channels specific to your web site or sub directories within it; e.g. www.yourwebsite.com, www.yourwebsite.com/subdirectory/, www.yourwebsite.com/sub/sub/subdirectory/ If you really want you can make it page specific; www.yourwebsite.com/trackthispage.html Another option is to write some javascript within which you place the Ad but that starts getting rather complicated ...
You can also create channels <b>within</b> a page indexpage-top-left indexpage-bottom-exit-button To track eye movement
do you use any layout templates for your pages? one of my sites for example has two templates: job and resume. each job appears in the same [job] template and each resume appears in the same [resume] template. so there are only two channels needed in my case despite the fact that there are 1000's of jobs and resumes. is there any pattern like that in your sites? if not, i'd set up channels (up to 100) for pages which you know have the most traffic and see how the ads perform on those. then you can move the channel definitions from the poorset performers to other pages hope this helps james
Thanks for all the responses. I have 3 sites right now that I'm have Adsense on. Two are still relatively small, so I created just one general channel for each of those domains and will adjust as more content-specific subjects are adding. The other site is definitely retail product oriented, so I have created a specific topic page for each category of product, keeping the theme in tact. I added Adsense to each of these topics pages, so I'm thinking I'll probably have to create a channel for each of these pages to see which ones topics are performing better than the others. Am I on track here? Patty
Your approach sounds reasonable. It takes time to properly develop Adsense on your website. IMHO, it is better to alter things in byte-sized chunks (sorry about the bad pun - couldn't resist the opportunity) and not try to keep track of too many channels. It becomes confusing otherwise, especially when you start out. Personally, at least to begin with, I would #1 - seek out similar websites to your own to see how they are displaying Adsense (assuming they are) #2 - Try to integrate the ads to the color scheme of your site #3 - Use different ad sizes on different pages in the beginning. This will allow you to track and quickly discover what type of ad box works best for your audience using a minimum number of channels
Thanks mcfox... I appreciate your input. I spent most of this morning "playing" with the templates and did create one that will blend in nicely with my site colors. I was going to use different sizes simply because of space and layout, but I didn't think about tracking those to see how effective they are. (I'm still learning). Thanks again! Patty
