Changing Windows XP Product Key

Hi,

Is it possible to change my Windows XP Product key without reinstalling windows? Now I always get a message that I don't have a legal XP version, but I do have! My friend installed XP for me, but didn't use my legal product key.
I hope it is possible, because now I can't install some updates and can't use Media Player 11.

go to activate windows>activate over the phone>change key only if instructed to do so by microsoft> enter your "legal" key> see what happens

if it's really legal then cll MS and tell them what happened and they will give you a new key

 

I think a new reinstall might be good as it will become like new again

 

after so many times you have to call them now..kinda a pain in the ass

That will be expensive.

Google for changing your product key in the registry. I know it's found in a registry key, I just can't remember exactly where.
