Is changing webhost affects in any way the serps, I don't think so but I just want to make sure since the dns and ip address will be changed.

AFAIK, there won't be no change if you can minimize down time. I would advise to set both name servers days before moving. ;)

No change if the IP of the new host is not considered as a "bad neighbourhood" by Google.

I dont it would make any big difference. But be sure to have less downtimes.

IP could matter for the "page located in country:.. " searches

leave the site up on both hosts for a week or two after you change the nameservers - this will eliminate downtime. Thats all you need to do to be ok in the serps.

The point is as soon as I change the dns to the new webhost the first one will no longer host the site. to propagate the dns it should take around 30mns I hope the transition is going to be smooth.
PS: my current webhost is yahoo and I am moving to site5. by far a better alternative.

jhamdi, Joey knows how it works. The point is that the changes take a while to propagate across all of the dns machines around the world. Leaving your site up on both hosts will ensure that your visitors and bots will not see any downtime for your site.

pay your host to leave it up. DNS doesn't have anything to do with your website still residing on your old server.

I may be lost here but when I change the dns and try to reach mydomain.com I get the "this site is under construction" of yahoo. I guess this what visiters and search engines will see then, no? I did not cancel my webhost yet but I tried this with other domains

I don't know how yahoo hosting works. And, when you say "change the dns" I am not sure if Yahoo is still doing your dns or if your new hosting company is. It is possible that you may have to ask Yahoo to leave your site up for you...maybe you can PM me the url and I can take a look to understand a little better.

In the domain control panel of yahoo you can change the dns servers for that domain. instantly you will start seeing the under construction page until the dns is propagated and start seeing the new site. this usually takes 30 mns. the url is the first in my sig, it is still hosted by yahoo but now I copying the whole thing to the new host before shutting down yahoo hosting
