I'm working on redesign of a site - it's currently ranked well, got every page indexed in google, etc, but the site isn't usable and it's getting very poor conversion rates (which is the reason for the redesign). The current version has pages indexed that end with .asp and the new pages will end with .aspx. In addition, the programmer has asked me whether he needs to keep the same site structure (directories, subdirectories) or not. Any advice will be appreciated greatly! Rachel
Just do 301 redirects from the old pages to the new ones. I actually just got finished with a new site design/URL structure and had to do 301's for all the old pages (that were indexed/cached in Google) to new pages. Google, and other search engines, will see the 301 and move all the listings, including descriptions/titles/etc... to the new pages. You wanna do a .htaccess 301 redirect.
yes 301 is very good option.if pages are asp or aspx dont really matter, but as far as possiable keep structure same as old.tell your designer not to use any frames or big flash designs trying attract visitors.just simple and proff design will increase your conv rate.
