Changing to Do Follow, What to remember?

I'm thinking of changing my blog to do follow to get more user comments and a more active community however I have a few questions and skepticism. I'm worried if I do change my blog to do follow that google will penalize me. I remember reading an article somewhere about google penalizing sites for selling dofollow links. On my blog I have a on the side corner I have an added widget where I add links to all the directories or sites which have me listed, if I change my comments to do follow will it affect these in any way? Also I'm afraid is there anyway I may suffer for changing my blog to dofollow, what aspects should I look at before doing so. Thanks Once again DP members.

Get a strong comment policy in place and then get your hands on the "Comment Policy" plugin -- also Lucia's LinkLove and a couple others... hang on, let me grab my list.

As for your blogroll problem, just nofollow that and you should be fine.

SELLING links may get you into trouble if Google catches you, but it's your site and it's your right to give away as many DoFollows as you like so it won't cause you any problems.

I'm currently experimenting with a combination of DoFollow, KeywordLuv and CommentLuv to encourage more comments and visitors to see if that will help me generate more authority and inbounds
