Changing title and description on submissions

Hi, I know that you should change the Title and Description on a regular basic when doing submissions.

But how often is a must? I mean some sites, there are only so many different titles you can use, and only so many ways you can describe your site.

I have been trying to change them after say around 20 submissions, (as I was advised to do this) but this is getting impossible to do. I have now used every possible title and description I can.

    Thanks

    Dee

it's not really an issue. the title should be kept related to where you want to rank in google for that keyword, and the description isn't really important. i sometimes use the word "freshest" instead of "hottest" when describing the clothes we sell, for example. you certainly dont need to spend any time thinking about it.

    Hi Dee,

    I agree.
Minor title changes (such as adding/removing 1 word to your targeting key phrase or replacing one word with another) from time to time can be fine.
As for the description- I've started using different ones only recently…and that's after I used the same description for a lot more then 20 submissions.
Nothing bad happened and my SE ranking is good.

    Good day.

For Titles, i get a load ready, sometimes between 25 - 50 different titles.

For Descriptions, sometimes after 50 submissions i will change the description.

Its impossible that you have used all variations ;) theres always another relevant one.

How many words you using in your titles?

Well then you might want to start submitting a different article.
It will still be slightly beneficial posting with identical details, just don't over do it.
Even with natural linking people still copy/paste exerts from the site they're linking to.

For best results, it is a good idea to change things up a little with submission descriptions - it comes down to the whole duplicate content issue. If your submitted content is a duplication of something submitted to 50 other places those submissions have a chance of being disregarded or minimized by search engines because the content is a duplicate of something found somewhere else.

A directory that is concerned about this such as the one in my sig will avoid the whole issue by making changes to or rewriting all descriptions submitted to keep content unique. This is not something that I see many other directories doing though.

A tiny concern in my mind is could the rewrite of the description be as bad as the duplicate description if the person rewriting strips out any keywords that the submitter placed in the description, also the directory owner might not have much understanding of the websites business and gives the submitter a poor and unsuitable description.

I start by making up a list of 10 or 15 titles and just pick a different one for every submission. Then once you start getting hits from the search engines you'll come up with some more titles to add to the list. Especially the ones where I'm on page 2 or 3 of Google. That helps them get closer to the first page.

I see what your saying pipes - my perspective with duplicate descriptions is I want unique or at least a little different descriptions to facilitate better indexing of the directory.

Nearly every submission will get a quick google search on the domain really just to find other links to it and see how different the description is from others already out there. Usually you can find 3 or 4 of the same descriptions on the first few pages of results.

It is pretty easy to pick out keywords from a submission and while keeping the same general tone for the description - reword it into something that is at least a little different around the same 2 or 3 keywords while still making sense.

I think the only ones that may have problems with it might be those descriptions that are submitted and rattle off lists of keywords. ABC auto painting submitting a description that tells how they paint red cars, green, cars, pink cars, blue cars, new cars, old cars, yellow cars and cars that do tricks does not work for me. It is keyword spam and they may or may not be happy when the keywords in their description get trimmed down. :)

There are typically two types of descriptions - those that only take minor tweaking to make them at least a little different and those that take major re writing. Most only take the minor tweaking.

Hi, thanks for your imput, but I still need to know how often I need to change these.

I have already used around 15 different titles, so I have to disagree with one of the comments above that there are always new titles.

For example if it's a Villa for hire in Tenerife, there really are only so many titles you can have, after which you start to lose the focus of your main keywords.

I have probably used some title only around 20-30 times, can you use them more than this?

I am on G page 1 for my main keywords.

Idealy for the description you would change it up with every submission - realistically if you are doing mass submissions to free directories that is kind of tough and you need to use your own judgement.

For the anchor text you are fairly limited as the how many changes you can do there. Choose a limited number of anchor texts (maybe 10 or 20) and focus on them. As you begin to see results in searches that you want expand to additional anchor text that works in other keywords which you would like to see traffic for.
