Changing Site Title - Good or Bad?

I was wondering what sort of effect changing the title of your blog can have....After its already an established site and has many pages indexed in google...

I still want to keep the main name of the site in the title...I was just wondering if its good or bad for SEO to change whatever may come after the title...

Example, say your site name is "Photography Tips - Photo Tips, Daily Tips, Film Tips" would it be bad to change it to something like "Photography Tips - Photo Rules, Photo How To, Tip & Tricks"....

Since the site has many pages listed in google with its previous title is this a bad practice? Should the title not be changed once you set it and establish the site?

BTW....The example is nothing but an example, so dont bash the keywords cause i just put them there to use something...

    I don't think so...

There is a difference between site title and slogan...

I think that what you are proposing is a change in the site slogan, rather than title...

What is your site listed as in directories? It can't be the full title of "Photography Tips - Photo Tips, Daily Tips, Film Tips"... there must be a unique name for the site...

Changing the title tag is certainly no magic trick. There have been a couple instances when changing my title tag on established sites bumped me up in the rankings and other instances where there was no effect. From what i understand, your title and description basically serves as your ad copy so they should be written carefully and should state exactly what your site is about. I'd test it out on some other pages in your site that you might rank for.

I believe changing it would help to give visitors more details about what they are clicking.

change in title will do no good in your serps and PR. if you do, you might start from scratch to obtain that ranking again

Actually, i have some listings in directories like that...With keywords listed like that, they have been expected with no problem...ive submitted a few like that as tests....

But i have a sneaker site...called Sneaker Obsession....The title of my site is "Sneaker Obsession - Jordan Sneakers, Customs Sneakers, SB Dunks"....Everytime i make a post the title at the top of the browser gives the title of the post followed by the title of the blog, which i just listed above...

I would like to change it to something like "Sneaker Obsession - Air Jordan Shoes, Custom Sneakers, Nike SB Dunks"

But i have tons of backlinks from my site listed in google...So say for example you do a search for a Puma sneaker...you will see a result from my site which says..."Puma Basket Camo Pack | Sneaker Obsession - Jordan Sneakers, Custom Sneakers, SB Dunks"...

If i change what comes after "Sneaker Obsession" will it be bad for my site and those pages already in indexed in google? Or will google just update the title? I get google bots browsing the same posts a lot, they would actually like to crawl my site more then i allow them to, so i would imagine they would just pick up on the edit and make a change to their index...But i could be wrong since i dont know much about this...

Change your title if the title you currently have does not target the key phrases you are trying to optimise for. I'll give you an example of my website where I recently just changed the title.

I am trying to optimise for the key phrases "poker is rigged" and "poker forums". Poker is rigged is already done, but then 2 days ago I went to change my title tag from "pokerisrigged.com" to "Poker is Rigged | Forums". I saw a massive increase from page 12 to top of page 6. Only change your title if it is going to help you capture your key phrases in it, don't change it to anything else.

Could you please reply to this thread with your current title and your potential new title please 2 FN LOW? Along with the key phrases you are targetting. Maybe I could help you in greater depth.

You're getting a bit too specific with that title tag I think. You want your site to come up in bold when someone searches they key phrases you are targetting. I think you could do better with jut keeping it even more simple. You should drop all this "sneakers, entertainment, culture" down to the meta description. Then you should have the title tag as just "Abnormal Style | Latest Fasion, Urban and Streetwear Clothing". Then stick other search phrases in the meta description such as "urban culture and entertainment" as well as the rest.

Hopefully this is of some help. I don't advise changing the title tags unless you are absolutely sure though. Of course I don't know everything about your site and therefore changing your title tags may not target the correct market for you. Purely a suggestion.

    ummmm - why?

there will be an effect in the SERPs, but that your rankings will necessarily drop...

there's no harm in experimenting with different titles. If one doesn't work (if you lose rankings), try another one. If you pick a bad title and your SERP drops, it'll go back up to normal as soon as you change the title back to the original... so why not experiment?

Note: I said things like "...it'll go back to normal as soon as you change the title back". Please note that nothing in SEO is immediate (but you already know that). When testing different titles, give google time to crawl your site and re-index your pages before trying something else.

    Try this instead:

    "Daily Photography and Film Tips"

And call me in the morning. ;)

In other words, when done properly, no it won't be harmful. You may see a temporary reduction in your rankings for some search terms, but at the same time you may also see increases as well (such as "Daily Film Tips", which was not originally covered in your example title). Of course, any temporary negative impact will be just that - temporary.
