    Hey Everyone,

First of all if your reading this thanks a lot. OK here is go.

Right now I have a blog through blogger.com, I decided to to buy a domain through it for obvious reasons, so for instance instead of blogspot.workingathomeknowledge.com it is just workingathomeknowledge.com . Well I have been thinking about getting a short one that abreviates this name such as wahk.com . My question is, is there a way to switch out my primary domain name? Or would it be better to buy a shorter domain name for a secondary route to my website? I don't wan't to lose any credibility with the name I have established up to this point. So just looking to get your thoughts and routes I can take to get this done or the best route.

    the 2nd opt.
If you change the primary domain then you lose all the seo you build. (backlinks, pagerank, etc)

You're not alone. Lots of companies change their domain names ... for example when they change their company names, and for other reasons. What you need to do is, first, buy your new domain name, then, second, set up a new Blogger.com site with that new domain name, then finally, on your old Blogger site, delete most or all of your present html code and replace it with a "url redirect" script, sometimes called a visitor redirect.

Then when a visitor goes to your old address, they'll see a message like "Redirecting to new address ..." or whatever message you want there. That message can stay on for 2 seconds, or whatever length of time you specify, and then they're transferred to your new site. Or if you specify the time length as zero seconds, then they'll be transferred immediately to your new address without any waiting time.

A url redirect script takes only a few lines, and you can find it at lots of places, including this one: http://hypergurl.com/redirect.html.

Doing the redirect to a new site will keep all your incoming links working and automatically transfer your visitors to your new address.

My question as well though, is would it be OK just to have a shortened second domain that points to this one? This way its a shorter domain name and nothing changes.
