Changing On Page SEO = Drop?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by The Artful Surfer, Apr 9, 2008.

I recently changed a few things on the main page of my website in order to add more of the keyword that I want to rank for.

Now my page has dropped down to the 30's in terms of ranking for that keyword. Is this normal? Will it come back, or should I assume that I should tweak again?

I know I have to give Google some time, but I just want to know what to expect when changing the on-page SEO of a site that's been established for a few months with little change.

If you used the keyword to many times they lower rank of site because of it. I would suggest 3 to 5 keywords per hundred words or 3 to 5%

The thing was, it was ranking for a keyword that wasn't even ON the page. (thanks to backlink text.) I added it 2 times in the H2 tags and once the teh body.

same thing happened to me when I just oversaturated my main page with keywords. I did a compromise - left only about a half of text I added before and everything returned to the normal when google next cached my site. What´s even better - I jumped from $9-10 to number 6 for my main keyword.

My advice - change your text, drop some keywords, make your site look natural, experiment with it...

It's normal to experience a drop in search engine rankings when you've edited a page. Unless you've made detrimental changes, i'd expect to see an increase in your rankings within a week.

It is Google trying to freak you out .. dont panic keep your changes but I am not sure if you need to repeat your keyword twice in H2 tag .. just repeat it in the body without any tags unless it is in the heading and make sure to have it in the title tag if it is one of your first tier keywords

Google is taking a LOT of time to update its index lately. Some of my ranked and indexed sites are taking a long time to come back.

In my guess, if your on page SEO is cool, your page WILL come back. Prolly, higher ! :)

Agree! Do not panic about drop in ranking. It just happens when you play with your site. If u are doing changes according to Google Guidelines
then i am sure nothing to worry about ranking. Everything wud be normal with the time.

Keyword density does not mean, use keywords in such a way in your content that it is not going to repeated again and again.

did u jumbling the keywords? see when we got the ranking on SERPS then we need to do our work very carefully if you want to add any other keyword then clear some point the keyword is different from which you already used and unique content with 3 or 4% density of the keywords. Normally when we add some pages on our site then our site ranking is going down for some time but it will come back with in 2 weak. Best of luck

the more rich and unique content u have on page, than you don't require to consider keyword density in that cases.

Yes, for me it usually takes between one and two weeks, but as mentioned before, if the changes improve the quality of the content (for me this means using natural language, not overusing keywords without any reason and so on) you should get a higher position, or at least keep your current one.

    Be patient!

If you hadn't stuffed your title or on page text with keywords you shouldn't be afraid. Stay patient, Google likes to play with its ranking algo. Maybe it was just one of their "amendments".
