    Hi

Will a website get penalized if you change the meta tags of its pages once they have origionally been indexed for a while?

    Thanks

very much doubt it! Why should Google punish a meta tag change? Makes no sense.

No, they won't. They'll just replace the old version with the new one the next time they crawl those pages.

meta tags have no bearing on ranking, it can only increase your click through by offering the human visitor a more accurate snippet.

I've done it several times without any impact. It will change the keywords you rank for so make sure you do them right. The only meta tag that has a big influence is the description meta tag.
