Changing hosts with WP?

    Hey everybody

Got a question here for all those WP-know-it-alls:p
I've decided to start up a blog and going to run WP with it. I dont want to invest too much money in it at first because obviously, it doesn't need a spankin' server in it's first year, or even close:eek:

Therefore, I'm planning to work with a very cheap, but definitely reliable web host for the time being and expand as/if the blog gets bigger. What I want to know is that what will happen to all my blog posts that's hosted on serverA when I make the move to serverB?

Is there a way to carry it on? Or is everything going to be lost/stuck at the old host forever?

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciate :D

If you both remove the date and files from SA to SB,i think that shall be okay.

I have not done this yet, but I think you will have to export the database and then import it into your new WP installation.

I just transferred one of mine to a new server. I contacted the new host and they did all the transferring for me and everything stayed intact including all the posts. With-in a couple of hours, I was able to continue as if nothing had changed.

Just ask the new host if they will transfer it if you buy from them, I think most will and they will fix problems you have.

I've just done some, it's really simple. Install it (a fresh copy) on the second server, with all the right files, then drop the database contents and put it in there.

You can backup your site using cPanel's backup or download all your files by FTP (takes longer) and then also make sure to backup your mySQL DB(s). Then upload all of your files to your new host and import your mySQL DB(s). Always make sure that your new installation of your site is working correctly before canceling your old hosting account and changing over your nameservers to your new host's nameservers.
