Changing from Windows server with ASPX file endings to Linux

I've a site that is using ASP programming language that is native to Windows servers, and I'm thinking of changing it over to a Linux based server.

What problems can I expect, I know asp will not work, so is a full site redevelopment needed?

Anything else I need to know?

    Thanks Ian

Chillisoft is certainly an option, but it will not be a simple migration as there are significant differences between this and native ASP on IIS. Firstly, I would advise you to step back and consider why you're making this decision at all.

Whichever platform you choose (and i'm not about to get into that argument), I would say that it's important to stay loyal to that platform until there is a very, very good reason that you need to change.

If you are taking this step based on the financial implications of Linux vs Windows hosting, is it worth it considering the cost of redeveloping in a Linux scripting language such as PHP? Perhaps it would be better to pay the small extra amount for Windows hosting rather than shell out a large amount for development costs.

If there is a specific feature that you think that a Linux host can provide over Windows, why not ask first for advice about that - as i'm sure you know it's likely that someone on DP can help you.

Just my ramblings before I have lunch...
