Hi My friends website is currently ranked No. 1 in UK searches for a 2 word keyword based on his offline business His business is currently named as XXX trading as YYY for example, and our current domain is XXX, whilst we've just bought a YYY that's easier to remember and has our target keywords in also My question is, which is the best way to approach the change over in terms of keeping our SERPS Is it: 1. 301 redirect from the new domain to the old one, and just use the new one exclusively for type in traffic from our offline promotional material 2. Copy the entire site to the new one and have a 301 redirect from the old domain I'd prefer to use method 2 as it's a long term solution, but how long would we loose our SERPS for roughly? A few weeks is ok as the business doesn't rely on them, however a little bit of custom would be lost still regardless The new domain is also brand new, and the old one is 4 years old which helps SEO too I presume Regards, Kyle
I've never actually had to do this but if I was in your situation I would just 301 redirect the new domain to the old domain so then you don't really have to worry about anything.
