Changing Domain from .co.uk to .com

    Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone could help!

Basically, I have a .co.uk domain name and it currently has very good ranking in Google.co.uk and UK search results and is getting me good business.

I'm currently looking to expand so I have the same domain name in .com and want to change over the .co.uk to the .com using 301 redirects and also using feature in Google Webmaster Tools to change over the domain name.

My question is, when I move the domain over to the .com, is it likely that my UK search ranking will go down?

Also would the new .com take over ranking power of the old .co.uk?
Would the Google.com ranking be boosted?

I'd like the UK ranking to stay the same but start competing in the US market.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Thanks

Using 301 redirect may help you to redirect your past traffic to your new built .com site

Put a full stop to what you are thinking and try to come up with another .Com version instead of using 301 redirect and all that.

    Hi,

Google.co.uk will usually favour appropriate .co.uk domains over .com domains. So if you move to .com and you have a close competitor with a .co.uk domain, they will get the first bite.

Perhaps better to do as suggested above and start a separate .com site.

    Hello

I suggest you develop a completely new sites for the US and get a "drop box" in the US, and use that address in your whois. Setup a registrar account with that address from the start and never use a UK address. Also use a us host for your .com site.

    Hope this is useful
