I've noticed in cPanel its possible to change a domain name associated with a site?

    Has anyone ever done this?

This is a fully developed site running and operating with varios mysql databases.

I am considering changing the name and looking for a little advice? I dont want to screw things up.

If you actually getting traffic for the site already, changing the domain name in the midst may not be a good idea as it will lead to the lost of traffic and PR rating if you are into this.

I would think the best method would be to maintain the old domain name for at least a good year or so. Then just either park the new name to the account then drive the traffic over.

Yes but technically speaking, changing the domain name will work if done in WHM. It is really just changing the Virtual Host directive in Apache and nothing more.

The site is totally developed and functioning with many paying members.

I'm not too worried about PR and all that jazz.

Make sure that all your members knows about the change of the domain name because once you do the change, they cannot access your site with the old name. I still think it is best to parked the old name with the new for at least the next few months so that those members who missed the alert can still access the site.
