Changes in MSN search rankings?

    Hi folks,

For the past year or two my site has been terrible on MSN, and
fantastic on Google. Rare keywords that have always been
ranking high on Google only bring up span sites on MSN.

But in the last two weeks our ranking on MSN is getting much
better--not fantastic, but definitely directions towards the good.

But if we are moving up, somebody else must be moving down,
so have you noticed andy good or bad changes?

    best regards
    wiz

To move up and go down is part of life and always remember -- change is only constant in our life. So why worry? But must try to get higher ranking and live life without tension.

thats quite a philosophical 'zen' approach to SEO. I must give it a try some time. Maybe I could sell that to clients. 'Yeah, sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down but hey, thats life, don't worry bout it. ' :)

Incidentally I've found that MSN seems pretty quick in ranking small sites nice & high but also quick at dropping them right back down the rankings if they dont grow.

Since this June onward, my website, and my client's website are always ranked top 3 pages in MSN , even for common keywords such as "Singapore web hosting" , "cookies manufacturer" and etc...

don't know what MSN has change for its ranking system....

This is definitely a trend, I can't explain why MSN is giving
us more respect, but my only explanation why they had us
so low is because they are so lame. (Spam sites rank
higher than legitimate sites, not good for searchers)

I only have one site out of over 40 that rank #1 on yahoo, google, and MSN for any type of fairly competitive keyword. It's extremely difficult to rank well with all three because of differences in their algorithim. MSN is the easiest site to rank with because they seem to use any type of link, so using the co-op you can get to the top in a matter of weeks. It is my belief that the co-op can have negative effects with Yahoo and Google - but it isn't accross the board. It probably depends on a number of factors, such as site age, number of quality links to balance the generic co-op links, etc. Yahoo and MSN also have a higher keyword density allowance, where google will nail you for over-optimization.

If you have a top ten ranking on google, I would be very careful about trying things to rank well with the others. With the one site I have that has consitently ranked #1 on all three, google brings the most traffic by far - between 65 and 70%. Yahoo brings a little more than MSN, but it's pretty close (I expected Yahoo to have a much higher percentage).

The only safe way to keep yourself from getting into trouble is getting quality links from relevant sites - and of course those are the hardest and most time consuming.

For all my sites, MSN doesn't care about quality of links at all (at least at this point in time) but I'm sure that will change. They look at quantity. Yahoo's newest update is showing to me that they care more about links then they did before. Google only wants to see high quality links as opposed to quantity. Some of my sites rank well for competitive terms with just a small handfull of links, but they are strong links.

They don;t really care about quality of links but be careful with other search engines who do. Why not make a page optimized for MSN only and keep your main page optimized for G and Y

MSN is going to keep adjusting their algo to try to catch up with Google. I would expect to see changes all the time.

I have a site that is about a specific product, this past week or so I just moved to #1 on msn ahead of the company who actually makes the product.

    That is screwed up.

Although MSN has been sort of the odd man out when it comes to search engines, they are very good when it comes to indexinn and keeping their sites up to date.. Although it isnt tough in MSN to rank for your sites, There is some work to be done when it comes to staying #1, think about it, you would get more traffic from being #1 in MSN, then being #6 or #7 in Yahoo!! MSN is easy to target for key terms, but keeping them there is a bit tough because of there continuous updating. Keep this in mind , don't fret if your site is not doing to good in MSN, just do a little maintinece every now and then.
