Hey All, First DON'T GET PANICKED! I'm just discussing one observation here! The last few days I've been observing some very weird situation with my AdSense ads as some "kind'a low quality" websites started getting only few cents clicks and I used to get $0.80 cents minimum per click and that's a shocker for me ...... This event occurred immediately after Yahoo announced that they are changing their payoff algorithm so that low quality sites get less revenue and high quality sites get bigger payoffs and I was wondering if you guys are observing the same situation with AdSense as I do ... My suspicion is that Google changed the AdSense algo and now some small sites with poor PR are going to get only few cents per click in order to fight MFA websites and so on ... Can you share your opinions and observations please ... Thanks, Venetsian
Yes, I have been observing this for a while now. Although it does not seem to have that much to do with page rank of the page the ad is on but rather with the quality of the traffic. Google can read the referrer on your site. I guess they just don't like traffic that comes from traffic exchange or cheaper PPC engine....
Hmm... the site is pr2, with about 10 pages total..... not too much useful information because it used to be store but the owner got bankrupted and I took ownership of the website .. filled it up with ads and that's it ... Now .. I call that low quality ...
my site is full of contents and just one month old (so no PR) this past few days EPC has decreased to just 0.07 - 0.10 cents. I used to have 0.20 - 0.25 so this is a huge decrease
Could have something to do with last thursdays TOS changes... Policy updates -- and it's not even Thursday! After our many weeks of policy posts on Thursdays, you're probably intimately familiar with all of our program policies. So we can imagine your surprise when you woke up today, got your morning coffee, and settled in for your daily re-read of the policies -- only to find they were different! To help lessen the shock, we've highlighted the two notable changes below: We're now requiring AdSense publishers to comply with the spirit of our Page Quality Guidelines. If you're an AdWords advertiser, you might already be familiar with these guidelines, which are intended to provide a better experience for users, advertisers, and publishers alike. If you use any kind of online advertising, know that these guidelines encourage publishers to, among other things, create sites with simple navigation and substantial, useful content. This new policy requirement doesn't mean that you can't use online advertising; it simply means that if you do, you need to be sure that the way you advertise meets with the guidelines, whether it's through AdWords or through any other advertising program. However you advertise your site, it can always benefit from significant and relevant content, clear navigation, and the other points in our quality guidelines.
I wonder how google would determine a sites quality other than by PR? they can't visit every site manually
Quite easy. I'll tell you how. 1st. Number of new link growth (that's 100% for quality) 2nd. Number of inner pages with unique content larger than 400 words (that's also a quality check) 3rd. Non-Spammy, Non-Hidden links and structure 4rh. Nice CTR when visitors come from SEs (ask me and I'll explain more if you want) 5th. Time spent on the site - very important factor. If you got quality content, then it should take em more then few seconds ... I guess that's the most important factors that I'm aware of .. and they can be easily implemented into Algorithms if not already there ... Google is smart, don't underestimate its power. More than 1000 top scientists are working on it so .. they might be quite smarter than we all think ... Cheers, Venetsian
venetsian, I cant agree more. There seems like a definate change in adsense algorithm based on quality.
