I just changed my domain name and want to know if there was a way to fix it in Google so the new domain comes up instead of the old one. Also will that affect webmaster tools?
Hello, You can redirect the new domain to your old one. In this case when one will open the old one, automatically it will redirect to the new one. In this way the position of old domain, the new domain will be called (open). If you want SEO work for your new domain (website), then please contact me. Thanks & Regards Noor Alam Skype : Seo.Alam
You need to redirect your old domain to your new one using 301 redirects. That tells Google that your site has moved. There's also additional thing to do in webmaster tools, but you still need to set your old domain to redirect to your new one first. This way links, PR and link juice will slowly move to new one.
The fact that you can come onto the forum and make a post as unhelpful as this before trying to plug your services is shocking, also known as spamming! Anyway the comment from blvd is spot on, you do need to 301 the former domain to pass over everything from one domain to the other, better done in the .htaccess file, you will find the code to place into that file all over the internet if you search Google for it.
Permanent ( 301 ) redirect is the way to do it. You can redirect your entire site from .htaccess. Check this tutorial: http://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/242/How+do+I+redirect+my+site+using+a+.htaccess+file%3F HTML:
