Changed blog platform and now indexed pages are vanishing, normal?

Well I have had problems with my blog backend and therefore I have resorted to changing it to Wordpress. Luckily I did not have many pages on my previous system which I permanently redirected to the new URLs. However, the old indexed pages are disappearing and the new ones are not being indexed.

Am I doing something wrong? can someone give me a few tips on how it should be done? or is it just how it's supposed to happen in Google?

Depends.. if this change was recently it takes some time to get the new pages indexed. I would give it some time.

I agree, if your home page is decently spidered by google, you just need time to have your new pages indexed.

Yes it was a recent change, just over a week, don't know if that's recent. My hope page is crawled decently too so I guess I will have to wait. I was under the impression that redirecting will cause Google to drop the old URL and index the news ones simultaneously but obviously I was wrong. I am just stressed because most of my traffic is from SEs and it has dropped significantly.

How long after Google crawling a page till it gets indexed? I know this might depend on the site but what is the average? any ideas?
