Would you change your name to get elected? Loretta Bixley did. She's now Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.

Now Bill Richardson is saying call me President Lopez. Why doesn't he just go by Mr./Ms. Wolfgang Mataga Kawsaki Nguyen Antwan Lopez Ali Donatello MacDonald O'neil Swenson Federov Reddy Li Smith to catch a better ethnic range.

    He/she'd get my vote.

Wikipedia says that Bixley was her married name and she's the daughter of Mexican immigrants.

The soft bigotry of low expectations.

The idea that voters can't figure it out or look it up real quick - if they cared - strikes me as just a little condescending.

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone.

Loretta Sanchez married the Mr. Bixley so she became Loretta Bixley. She was active around here and changed her name back when the DNC came to her and encouraged her with their $$$$upport to run against B1 Bob Dornan (a thorn in Clinton side) and they advised her to change her name to gain more Mexican American votes.

So that's the history of Loretta Sanchez Bixley Sanchez. I doubt that the name game will be as successful for Bill Richardson aka Wilfredo Lopez Ricardoson.
