Change of IP causes massive loss in rankings

So i have previously heard changing ip as long as the content doesnt change should not effect rankings.

Yet recently after moving a site 3-5 years of high google ranking it almost dropped out and lost all rankings after changing IP, even though the content did not change at all..

Is this temporary, while google confirms it? Will it bounce back?

    thanks for your feedback

I think it will get back in 3-4 days.

Usually, during the SERPs fluctuations you may loose ranking but after 3-4 days it gets back

I didn't know it changed rankings, that could be a reason why I've had such rubbish rankings lately, my IP has changed like mad as i've moved around :p
Why would GOogle care about your IP though?

I can't confirm if changing IP affects rankings...only Google knows that.

But, changing IPs for my site did improve things. I moved a few sites to a different host and kept a few at the old one.

Now all the moved ones have gained PR and traffic, but the old one there has not.

So, sometimes changing IP can be good (or bad) in your case. Whether it's temporary or not, I wouldnt know. :)

Changing IPs should have nothing to do with google SERPS. I changed my ip 3 times....and saw no change in google SERPS at that time.

Actually i do think that google found your website down and that's way you do lose your rankings...
How many day's your website was down ?

you should wait and see if your ranks change within the next following days.

My solution: don't worry about PR, its rubbish anyways, as only Google knows how it really works.

    yes. Its temporary.
I have moved a few sites before to different servers and you can lose ranking when you do this...however in my experience it usually returns in 4 or 5 days

Just for a limited period, before the google spiders crawl your site with new IP.
To get back to the previous ranking,it takes no such fixed duration. But how your whole website is indexed accordingly and used as per.

If the site was unavailable for a while, that could effect things. I think it is safe to say that this will be temporary.
