Change keywords regularly?

    Hi,

My site covers a wide area of topics and products. I recently started keeping track on the most common keywords being used through a free keyword company. They send an undate every week.

The keywords I was using is not on the list of most commonly used. So, I changed the keywords. The next list I got showed some of the same keywords as most common, but some of the other keywords had slipped in usage.

My question: Is it ok to change keywords on a regular basis and resubmit it? Will the search engines penalize me for doing that?

    Thanks,
    noelves

I don't think it will be a problem as long as you're using the same key words on the page.

What company are you using to keep track of your key words?

Changing keywords too often is not a good idea. you should have some specific keywords selected to promote the website. If you use more common keywords, you will find it more difficult to geta good ranking in most of the terms especially when you have a new website. On the otherhand if you use less common keywords, you will get less traffic....but, most of the time better ranking.

The bottom line is you should have a strategy to promote your website. I recommed to use more common words instead of less common terms. Try hard to promote those terms, it should help you in a long run.

I am just curious why do blogs rank so high in search engines? Are not there pages updated regularly?

I'm confused. When you change keywords exactly what do you do - redesign the entire site ??
Pages are ranked, not sites. You can have 100's or 1000's of keywords in use within a site, just design pages targetted to those keywords.

If the topic starter is referring to keyword meta tags, my advice would to not worry about it. Keywords in meta don't do anything for the big 3. As jlawrence mentioned, you write your pages around keywords. You can't easily change those.

    Thanks for the advice.

I had read some search engines only read the first few keywords. So, I'm assuming from your comments that might be incorrect information.

To answer jlawrence, the pages on my site are numerous and the site is indexed. Some of the pages are indexed, some are not. The ones that are indexed are the ones that I'm asking about.

Each page covers a different topic/article or displays a different product for sale from my online store. Each indexed page has it's own set of keywords along with the general keywords that apply to the entire site. The site is not submitted as a single topic site.

Example: You can buy candles, lighthouses, home decor, cultural items, etc.
Example: You can read or submit poems, get letters from Santa, take educational quizzes and tests, read mother goose rhymes, other kids stuff, etc..

Anyway, thanks all for your help. I'll take your advice and refrain from changing the keywords.

    Thanks,
    noelves
