If i own a domain with namecheap for example, there is an option to use your own DNS.
Please enter DNS name only (ex: ns1.mydomain.com).

Does anyone know how this will be possible? I'm looking to use a free host.

    - Login to your account
    - Click view the domains in my account
    - Click on the domain name you want to make the changes to
    - On the left hand side click "Domain Name Server Setup"

Then just add in the nameservers you want to use and click save changes. ;)

This just seems like a waste, just use godaddy or something instead.

You need to sign up with the web host of your choice, tell them your domain name and then they will tell you the nameserver to put into your namecheap account.

I already own 2 domains at 2 different hosts, and instead of paying $10 a month for one I would like to use free hosts. I don't know any that support custom domains though/

Will this be possible? or will I have to continue with paid hosting?

Not sure.. You will need to be able to handle your own dns.. Maybe some free hosts / dns providers have such a service.. I can't think of anyone..

Just stay with paid hosting, you get what you pay for :)
