Looks exactly the same here in the UK, you sure you didn't change something in your settings?

Google is now showing a new feature that lets you change the background image. You can choose from a vast collection of images provided by Google and also you can pick an image from your computer as well.

Ok, so I don't know if this is new, but I just went to Google and it now has a background image which I can change, similar to Bing? Has anyone else seen this? Was it just added?

I think this makes Google look worse, i loved the simple look of Google.

Unnecessary move really. Google already has iGoogle for people who want to personalize their homepage. Why bother offering this feature when they will only be on the main homepage for a few seconds at most.

Yes of course, I just think its a weird move for them to make the background picture default.

I don't see any bad idea here. It's just an option for users to do it..

    Hi all,

Wake up this morning, went to my homepage and realized that I opened the wrong link... Saw a pretty forest background, turns to be... I did no mistake.

Google changed his homepage background and ops! they did it again! This is not an original idea.

The pioneer for this was Microsoft's Bing, having a very successful surfers engage to the SE.

Guess this is another Google experiment, unfortunately nothing original this time.

As for me... well it's hard to see anything with that dark forest around but if you want to change it here is a link to the explanation http://npxp.com/google-change-background-image.

    What do you think?

An update and changes is fine. But in my opinion the simple look of Google is just fine.
And not to mention the good outcome they produce that was enough :)

The idea looks good to me. There may be a potential for advertising... For example, in cybercafes.

Google is Google, and Bing is Bing, Google will not turn into Bing. The background image is just a little change and I like this change. I think most people will like this change.

yep i noticed this. Google are in a powerful position and all they have to do when a new search enginee comes out is to copy what they do. It's very hardto patent things like having changeable images, whichwould stop google from doing this.

This is likely to confuse your average user as they'll look at that and think someone's hacked their computer especially as we try to educate them about pages changing potentially meaning malware and such. Plus todays pic makes the text pretty much unreadable - brilliant decision.

Also tried to change it in Firefox 3.6.3 and it won't let me. Just keeps asking me to login which I've done and it still goes round and round. Someone didn't do much in the way of checking before they launched it.

The option to choose background image is good but I like plain background after all, because it loads faster & look clean.
