Chances of Ranking High with Generic Keywords

    Hi everyone,

I have found a generic two-word keyword (lets pretend that is "laptop computer") that normally would have TONS of competition in other markets. It has $1 CPC Value, lots of advertisers (0.76 in Adwords competition), 45% PBR and a decent ammount of "exact" local searches (4,400). This keyword is in spanish and I'm targeting a specific country. Of course, my monetization strategy will be Adsense (and would be my first site too ;))

Using SEO Competition module from Market Samurai I also realized that it has very weak competition (wikipedia, sites like ebay, amazon, sites that are not specialized in the keyword, department stores, etc) and many of the top results have zero backlinks.

My idea is to make kinda "laptop computer" shopping guide for helping those people to choose one. This could be developed in several pages speaking about processors, memory, hard disk capacities, graphic cards, etc. Obviously the domain "laptopcomputer.com" is not available but "laptopcomputerguide.com" could do the job. Regarding the EMD... Do you recommend to use subfixes or prefixes?

And last but not least: Do you think this is a good idea or it's just too good to be true?

In EMD, if you are using prefix, sufix then make sure that the domain length is not too long, also an EMD would be more effective than EMD having prefix or suffix.

Thanks for your contribution. Everyone talks about the success of the NICHE sites, but this is kinda "general market" site and I've spent most part of the day analyzing the keyword and competition is SO weak I'm aware that broad words drive a lot of "unqualified" traffic (if you are selling your own products or affiliate ones). But isn't a lot of traffic what makes successful an Adsense site?

Any thoughts regarding if it's worth moving on with this project?

It sounds too good to be true..."laptop computer" is a really general term and I'm sure it's highly competitive. For your own sake and sanity, don't waste your time, find and easier keyphrase.
