Certain sites ranking high with just a handful of links Ive been looking at a few websites (eCommerce) today that rank in position 2 & 3 on Google but only have a few hundred back links. How is this possible? i looked had a look at there back links via Yahoo site explorer and was pretty shocked to see they didnt have a lot, plus the links seemed just to be web directories and low end blogs. How do they do this or am i missing something?
You are talking about e-commerce website, there are chances that those sites are authority sites not only in eyes of search engines but also in eyes of buyers. Moreover there are sure chances that they have a very good category structure for their products with detailed and unique product descriptions.... there are many possibilities beyond just back links.
hi wondingcd, this can be achieved if they are targeting low competition keywords and the backlinks that are pointing to the main website might be from good authority websites. this helps to rank the website much faster in the google SERPs. kindest, abhishek
