Last week I posted a thread about how a bill just passed the house which makes online gambling sites illegal in the US. Today, there is breaking news that the CEOs of gambling sites were arrested this past weekend for selling sports bets in the US. The attack on the Internet has begun. Click on this link to read the breaking news for yourselves: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060718/ap_on_hi_te/online_gambling_arrest

I hope this is a trend that sticks. I'm tired of the spam I get in my inbox from their affiliates. If they can't police that, they should go down.

I like to gamble online and I prefer not to have the government telling me what I can and cannot do with my hard earned cash, when I am harming no one (except arguably myself). The government keeps taking away more and more of our freedoms. Perhaps one day they might also regulate DP!!!!!!!!

I wish the government would regulate those damn feminine itching and tampon commercials on TV. I can't sit down to eat dinner without one of those things coming on to let me know how much fresher I can be by using their product. Like it's rocket science or something. If your "stuff" smells, wash it!

You're not going to like it when the government begins charging you to send out emails. You also aren't going to like it when they begin coming after industries which effect your business. As I've said before, whether or not you think gambling is right or wrong is not important. Whether or not you think spam is right or wrong is not important. Let the government control the internet, and you can say bye bye to freedom.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Information is the ultimate weapon. It is stronger than a nuke or bioweapon. If you can control the info that goes into someones head, you can control them. Prior to the internet, the government was able to control the flow of information. Now they can't, and they will attempt to take back that power.

You're not going to be happy when Digital Point and other forums are "banned" because they may harbor terrorists who can share ideas. The real terrorists are the government!

You're right, but the government seems to be making rapid progress lately. They know how out of control this thing is getting. And as usual, they do it in the same way. Go after industries like gambling and porn, so there isn't an immediate backlash because most people consider gambling and porn to be vices. Then they will go after racist websites, and people won't say anything then. Then the government will go after spam, and the people will rejoice.

But suddenly, the government will begin coming after sites like Digital Point and other forums. They will tax domains, and make it expensive to start an online business. By this time, the government will win, because they would have slowly taken over the internet. The government always operates bit by bit. Let them take an inch, and they will eventually have a mile.

The government will shut down Digital Point and other forums the first chance it gets. While the internet is a threat to the government, forums are even worse, because people are nearly sharing information in real time. There is no way television or cable can compete with a forum.

Forums are powerful because the "masses" get together and talk about subjects which are important to them. This means you get information from other people instead of governments and corporations. This is a threat to them because the government has always had power by keeping the masses disorganized, fighting with each other, and dumbed down.

But you are right, this is America. In America, when does the government tell us when and where we can spend out money. You guys who are talking about spam regulation need to stop and think. You're not going to like how the government is going to regulate it.
