I own a celebrity domain name. It currently has a fansite up with absolutely no ads or any income generating links. After reading some of the issues with owning a celebrity domain name I don't want it anymore. I would like to get back what I paid for it, but it seems that even that is questionable. Any advice would be appreciated. Please don't ask me what the domain is. It is a female actress who has been in a TV series and a few movies. She is gaining popularity. I used to get only 1 spam comment a month when I first acquired the domain, but now I get more than 1 a day. My site does not show up when you do a google search for the actress because my site is relatively new and has very little content. I'm thinking of pulling the site and just chalking up my purchase as a loss.
Flick it off to someone else on the DP Marketplace. There's always gonna be someone that would be interested in those type of names.
I already made up my mind. I'm curious to know what you folks would do? Keep it as is Keep the domain take down the site Sell it in an auction - what are the consequences? Give it to someone else - (only if the actress asks me i'll give it) Other
If you found the potential benefit on the domain and you like to promote the products with it, I highly recommend you go with website purpose or else you can consider to sell it in auction.
I don't think that it would be a nice to spend cash on individual and not much popular celebrity website. Revenue generation chances are not even 10% on these kind of websites. Its very difficult to find a buyer for it also.
if you using wordpress on a celebrity domain name .... good auto blogging and SEO softs are around .. grab them and you will rock
Nobody bought it so I'm just going to keep it. I just bought WP Robot so I'm going to use the domain as a test bed for my new purchase. Celebrity was Minka Kelly.
What I would do is drop it. The very same thing happened to me - I bought some celeb names, then later I read about how celeb names often bring legal consequences, got scared, deleted them instantly and recorded it down as a loss. A big loss of $100 it was in my case At least it was a lesson learned, BEFORE any legal consequences!
