Hi, First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong place - I figured it was best here but please move it if I'm in the wrong section I'm in the process of throwing together a couple of websites, one of which is going to be a website that distributes wallpapers of celebrities for free (something like skins.be). The only problem is the legal issues which surround doing that. Obviously I'm thinking about copyright issues. I found a similar thread saying that the rights are that of the photographer (usually). I want to ask how other similar websites go about doing this. IE - where do they get the wallpapers/photos from to conform with copyright issues? If indeed they do Are certain photo's free, I ask because you often see the same wallpapers at different sites. Thanks in advance for any help
There are several free stock photos. Also, those release with a press release are good to use. When you are looking at sites that have free photos, make sure you read any licenses or terms of use, as they may be free for you, but if you want to provide them for people, that may be prohibited.
You could try purchasing celebrity wallpaper packs, I always thought that if the image had no watermark then its free to use? I guess i will have to go research it
Thanks for the replies. I'm more wondering about the wallpapers that alot of sites tend to use, you often see the same wallpapers at many different sites so do these wallpapers come from somewhere which gives you free usage for such sites?
HydroJohn, just because there is no watermark does not mean you can. All creative things (music, books, movies, web site designs, photographs, etc.) are covered under copyright law when they are created automatically. And US Copyright law does not require notification of copyright. Neji, I know there are sites out there that allow free redistribution and usage of their content. You'll just have to dig around some. Sometimes the person that creates them uploads them to many sites, or sells them to many sites.
