Hello, My website traffic is increasing day by day and my server load is always above 3. I have tweaked my mysql and apache a lot to make my site fast but its enough now. Site is now loading slower. Vbulletin 4 forum is taking 7 seconds to load. What will you recommend will be better for me should I get another dedicated server and move my mysql server there. or should I get a CDN and put my clientscript, images, css, js files there. which option would be better for me...
You should buy a dedicated server with SAN storage to store your database. It will make your website load faster. If you have some more bucks, I'd like to recommend a CDN to store static files as well.
What are the current server specifications? Can you give us an output of the 'top' command? Might be as simple as adding another hard drive and placing some images and whatnot on that to reduce I/O wait.
I have got a CDN from MaxCDN and serving all images, css, .js files through it. Although I have managed to decrease my vbulletin forum loading time to 3.5 seconds from 12 seconds but server load has not decreased. Now, server has also started crashing. My server is Dual core ATOM 330 CPU with 2GB RAM. I think it would have been better if i would have taken another server like this and used it as mysql server only.
cdn is only good for image sharing sites, i'd recommend that you get a VPS or a dedicated server, pm me and i can find a good deal for you if you like
You're using all the CPU the way it is at the moment. Splitting the load up in between 2 servers won't be a good use of money at the moment, you could probably get a nice low end quad core server for that, which will be a massive increase in power in comparison to your current server. I think it's time you upgrade. If it's optimized properly as you say it is, you're out of options.
CDN can increase your website loading speed but will have little impact on load. You have to optimize your website first. Have you setup a cache system. I have seen a 50% drop in server load when cache is setup for Vb forums. It will be very much helpful.
thanks for asking but i can find it myself. Thanks a lot for your suggestion. What about: IBM brand server DUAL Opteron 250 4GB RAM Yes cache system is setup for forum as well as for my wordpress blog.
2x Opteron 250's wouldn't be as much of an improvement for your needs. It's a single core processor in the first place. What is your budget? Any ideal locations?
My Budget is not more than 100$. I have heard very ,much about Hivelocity and their prices are very attractive. Now I am very confused. Please recommend me one. I am going to run only Vbulletin forum along with a Wordpress Blog. * Core2Duo 2.53 Ghz * 4 GB Ram * 500 GB Sata * 3000 GB Bandwidth * 6 ips * $74/month What if I add 4 gigs of RAM in this package, my monthly expenses will be 105$. There is another deal. What do you think about it. * Core2Quad q8200 2.33 Ghz, 4MB Cache * 2 GB Ram * 500 GB Sata * 3000 GB bandwidth * 6 ips * $99/mo I think this one is better than above but RAM is only 2 GB in this case. Will it make any difference because Core2Quad is very big processor as compared to Core2Duo. Please recommend me one of these two.
Well the important part is RAM and HDD. You have to give more importance to it for a DB intensive website. I won't recommend RAM less than 4gb.
I'd recommend the $99 per month server here: http://www.nocster.com/sale.shtml HiVelocity is good, so if you would still prefer to use them, i'd stick to the Core 2 Duo. If you're happy to pay for the Core 2 Quad $105 package, i'd definitely suggest that.
Thanks for your suggestion, I 'll definately go for a server with more than 4 GB of RAM. I 've heard some bad reviews about nocester/burst.net. Can you please tell me any other service with the same price range?
BurstNET is fine. XLHost are pretty good - http://www.xlhost.com/moreinfo.php?service=16 . You could contact Volumedrive for a good deal, although they use the BurstNET network which you seem to be against.
Thanks a lot Well... I know BurstNET is very old reputed company but I have saw many servers being canceled in hours after they catch anything abusive. Some of their clients have complained that their server has been canceled before they got the warning email from abuse department. I have similar type of problem. I have a forum and blogs for users where they often share links to copyrighted content. It takes time to find and remove them. I am right now with FDC, never faced such type of problem with them
check out volumedrive.com They offered a $85 Intel i7 server before on webhostingtalk.com try sending them an email if they still have one.
