Ok, so here's the deal; Since 2002 I have been using www."mycompanyname".co.za for my company because I was a bit slow on the trigger and someone scooped up the .com variant of "mycompanyname" before I could purchase it. Finally after a couple of years and much trouble, I have managed to acquire "mycompanyname".com and its currently parked on top of my .co.za domain. What I want to know is, since ccTLD's apparently rank mostly for the country theyre for and its much harder to get a ccTLD into 'international rankings'; how do I put my .com in action without messing anything up?
301 redirect your country pages to the .com version. According to a session I heard at SES China a couple months back your .com should retain rankings for .co.za and gain better international ranking under the .com remember that the entire site needs to be 301 redirected which can be a bit of a problem. Make sure you have some decent links from .co.za pages though.
