One of my clients wants to expand his business and increase his ROI. He wants to get Country Coded Top Level Domains for his existing .com site which has PR 5. He feels that by doing so he would cover a large network of clients in US, UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. He plans to book 20+ such ccTLD domains and create country specific sites in the country's languages. Is ccTLD really useful? What is the use of ccTLD SEO-wise? Suppose if he redirects his existing .com site to all the co.uk, .fr or .jp, will it affect his ranking? Please help!
ccTLDs would be an advantage, when people search with a country specific condition - e.g. search with an option "pages from India" will have some Indian ccTLDs in the top results. My investing forum is not in the top results, for the term "investing forum" in Google. However when a user searches for pages specifically from India, my forum is at number 3 and 4.
It can also help when people do not select the 'pages from...' checkbox, due to 'Geo Targetting'. For example, pages with a .au will tend to rank better for searchs conducted by Australians, assuming that their IP address indicates that they are located in Australia. Mark
