CC Offers - Will they charge you?

Well I was thinking, since I have a CC for a few months, there are many Credit Card offers that will pay you big money just for signing up (but they require your credit card) many of them (in the freebies section) state that they do not charge you..
is this true? if yes, why do they require a credit card number?

Did you ever make an offer that stated that you will not be charged, but in reality you were charged?

Do they leave any trace in your statements etc...? or the bank won't even know?

    Will a VCC work?

    Thanks.

I am not sure about those offers and personally I would doubt them if they do not come from some established banks.

Basically when you make purchases with your credit card, the merchant would do an authorization charge, this will establish if the credit card is real and if you have sufficient credits. After that you sign the slip and the merchant will have to send that signed slip back to the bank to get your money. If they do not submit the slip, the pending hold on the charge amount would be lifted after 20 to 30 days, at which time, it would not be reflected as a transaction.

I supposed that if those offers are legit, they just want to use your credit card company to determine if you provided real data and that you are above 18 years old.

When you are signing up offers, you need to read their term and conditions, what happens sometimes, its mentioned in their terms that you will have to cancel your free trial between 14days from now or something like that, if you won't do that, they have right to charge your card for online transactions.

I usually just don't sign up for anything that says its free but requires a credit card unless its tangible.

What do you mean by established banks?
So eventually the bank will know, and it will be shown in my statements?
So from the CC they can know where I live and all my personal details?

Yeah.. good point. But still, if that is stated in the Terms that does not mean they are legit and I can trust them....

I don't .. that's why I'm asking.. because if this was safe I can make some money.

CC offers depends on the companies, for big and well known companies, giving them your CC number is safe, but for those you never heard of, even though they dangle a freebie in front of you, I would urge you not to reveal anything about your CC number.

Those big guys normally do not offer cheapo freebies to get your card numbers.

Well, established banks are banks which are real and not some scam or the likes. You could find out which bank issues those cards and check the bank's website.

If the credit card companies just do authorization hold, your bank would know about it but it may not reflect in your account once the hold is lifted. Of course if the company charge a certain amount and submits it then do a refund, it would show up.

Usually when someone ask for your credit card number, they will ask for your name, address, phone number, CVV2 number and credit card expiry date. These are needed by the credit card company to verify if the credit card is real. In short, yes they would know your personal information and where you live.
