Caution: Turning Off Hotlink Protection in CPanel Breaks Your Wordpress Permalinks!

Earlier today I was messing with the hotlink protection in
my CPanel and toggled it off and on... unfortunately doing
that broke the permalinks in all of my Wordpress blogs :(

The main page of each blog was fine, but when I went to
look at the individual posts they were gone!

Apparently a line in .htaccess got removed when I was
messing around. Fortunately the technician at HostGator
got me up and running in just a few minutes.

The moral of the story: be careful screwing around with
    things just because you're curious!

If I am not mistaken what it does is re-writes your .htaccess file. So if you change it, you will just need to rebuild your .htaccess file with the permalink re-write rules.

So really it doesnt have to be on, you just need to be prepared to chang your .htaccess file if you change it's settings.
