Category problem

I'm using a blog "template" that I purchased as the base and trying to modify it. The problem is that some categories I create it ads a -2 to the end of the url (category-2). I get the feeling it may have been previously created and not completely deleted so even if I try to manually change the slug it keeps reverting back to the -2.

Anybody know how to fix this?

    Thanks

Thanks for the link, but I'm not sure that's it, or how to use it.

Basically I've created a catergory "weightloss", but the slug for it is weightloss-2/page.php rather then weightloss/page.php

With a post or page I can go into the trash and permanently delete the post/page, but with the catergories I don't see an option to permanently delete the trash. But when I try to manually delete the "-2" it just defaults back to weightloss-2

    Thanks

No that's just it, I understand about it adding the -2 to the duplicate and with posts or pages I just need to make the slug a little different or delete it permanently from the trash. But in this case there's no duplicate catergory that I can see and I don't see a way to check if it has been trashed.

    Thanks

I had the same problem when I added category "something", then later I removed it... and when I wanted to create it again, the URL just would not be "something", whatever I did, but a copy URL of it, named "something-2".

So - the problem was the same. And the solution? I renamed the category to something else LOL. I felt it's a waste of time to solve if I can name the category "anything".

Yeah I'm still debating whether to rename the category or not, it's a keyworded "theme" catergory and REALLY wanted to use the keyword/category exactly as is, I'd hate to have to try re-installing it again with a new database :(

    Thanks
