does it make sense to copy it from someone ? like dmoz? or that's not a good idea?

once again, i'm very new, sorry if this question is very stupid..

If you want to create web directory then search for phplinkdirectory or indexscripts or esyndicate as they provide directory script. Go through Directories section properly if you want to know bried details about web directories.

Reading the directory section here is always a good thing, also look at other forums where a more detailed and impartial view is given.

    Copying is never appreciated.
Better create your own category structure.

There are thousands of general directories out there. Simply taking what someone else has already done will not make your directory stand out from the masses. If you use the same categories, your site will have the same file structure as a multitude of other directories. That makes SEO and promotions harder. Why make it any more difficult to compete in an already saturated market?

While it does take a considerable amount of time, in the long run, creating your own categories will pay off. If you want to make money from your directory, you are going to have to invest some time and effort to make it more than "just another directory".
