I expect all the information will be available on this mod
    http://www.phpld.com/
    released December 15, 2006
This mod is only available for phpLD 3.1.0
The quick sub-category adder allows you to quickly add categories to your directory.

Here is one: http://www.directoryspy.com/category-project/ but it's not so good, you'd better add, edit and remove some categories.

I was ever using this one, but finally removed it and built the categories from other directories and DMOZ, and then input the category one by one into the database. If internet allowed, you can finish it in one day.

Dont use the dumps, spend a few hours, create the categories by yourself. :)

because there are so many directories out there and so many born each day it makes google to think duplicate pages and would lead to de-indexing or supplemental pages in google. it would help if you just comeout with something little synonymously used category names. Anyway, good luck!!!;)

You can think over downloading category structure from dmoz or Yahoo.dir (suppose it should be smth in one file in net).
Personally, I have a nice business category structure at business.4clever.com, which I might thinking of selling:)
