Let me say for one that I blog as a hobby and I choose blogger because I see it as a quick and easy solution for blogging. Blogger not having categories is its biggest pitfall when compare to other blogging software like wordpress, typepad, etc. My solution for categories is just as slight modification of a category solution that I ran across on the internet. You will need to be somewhat comfortable in editing HTML, because you will need to create hyperlinks.

You will need a search engine that will index your blog, I have pick pico because you can control when your site gets indexed.

Step 1:
Get a picosearch account and have it index your blog.

Write down your account ID it will be a 6 digit number.
Example: 123456

Step 2:
Add unique hyperlink tags at the bottom of all your posts.
Example: IndySalsero-news

Html example (you will need to edit the information in bold):

Category: [<a href="
http://www.picosearch.com/cgi-bin/ts.pl?index=123456&
nolog=1&query=IndySalsero-news&SEARCH=Search&
opt=EXACT">IndySalsero-news</a>]

Code (markup):
Step 3:
Edit your blogger template:
Create a categories section
Create hyperlinks to search for the exact phases in your tags. For example to list all post that contain IndySalsero-news.

<a href=" http://www.picosearch.com/cgi-bin/ts.pl?index=123456&nolog=1&
query=IndySalsero-news&SEARCH=Search&
opt=EXACT">News</a>

Code (markup):
Step 4:
Have pico re-index your site so that it will see the tags you have just added.

Check out my blog to see how it works.

When adding new posts you will need to have pico re-index the site.

Pros:
No need to create additional blogs which will create dup content.
Relatively quick
Looks cleaner then del.ic.ious.
You can keep supporting Google, by using blogger.

Cons:
Adding the tags to all your posts (only have to do it one time)
Remembering to have pico index your site.

Nice! But why don't you try Blogger Blog Search instead of picosearch?

I assume you're talking about the numerous ways one can use del.icio.us to simulate categories in blogger.

I first used blogger search, but when I added the tags to the pervious posts, blogger would not reindex my blog right away. I waited 24 hours with no luck.

That is why I went for picosearch, more control.

Thanks for the correction.

Thanks Marques for this tip. I also use Blogger and wondered the same thing.

Btw, I like your signature - coz I'm an IT geek who's coincidentally taking salsa lessons! :-D
